“We started growing BMR sorghum in 2024 on 5 hectares, following our technician’s advice. We noticed that the cows ate it very well, and then saw positive effects on our milk yields: a 3-point increase in fat content, a 1.6-point increase in protein content, a decrease in somatic cell count, and an additional 2 to 3 liters of milk per cow per day. We didn’t have enough sorghum in 2024 to cover the entire year. When sorghum was no longer part of the ration, we noticed reduced palatability and a decrease in intake. In 2025, to meet our needs for the year, we planted 15 hectares of BMR sorghum, and we plan to plant the same area for the 2026 crop.
"The sorghum has helped us increase feed intake by 7 to 9 kg! Before, some cows wouldn't get up, but since we started feeding them sorghum, they all get up, and there's nothing left in the trough at the end of the day."
