The Beginning

Zelder began distributing its genetic material in France. In July 2002, Semental S.A.S. was established.

March 2004

SYNERGY

The Company Semental registers the trademark SYNERGIEwith the INPI, dedicated to its mixtures and combinations of forage grasses and legumes. This name reflects the company’s commitment to leveraging the complementary nature of different species to improve forage productivity and quality, as well as the sustainability of pastures.

PROTEC'SOL

The Company Semental registers the trademark PROTEC’SOLwith the INPI, dedicated to its cover crop mixtures. This line is designed to protect, structure, and improve soils and promote biodiversity by enhancing fertility, using mixtures of complementary species tailored to agronomic challenges.

In 2021, Semental revamped its PROTEC’SOLline by incorporating new species adapted to changes in farming practices and crop rotations, and designed to address environmental challenges.

2011

BMR sorghum

Semental is introducing BMR (Brown Mid Rib) sorghum to France, making this plant a new forage crop with numerous benefits for French livestock farmers. The company is requesting the creation of a French catalog. BMR is a game-changer because it offers higher nutritional value compared to non-BMR sorghum.

2015

Organic Seeds

Development of a comprehensive forage/CIMS product line designed for organic farming.

2016

LEAFY Corn

The Company Semental is introducing LEAFY corn to its product lines. This type of corn is characterized by significant leaf growth, improved digestibility of the vegetative parts, and highly degradable white, floury starch, thereby enhancing the animals’ utilization of the forage and improving milk and meat production. It also exhibits good tolerance to water stress, making it a reliable solution in the face of climate uncertainties, while contributing to consistent forage yields.

Lablab and Cowpea

The Company Semental is introducing Lablab and Cowpea to its product lines. These summer legumes allow for protein production in the summer, whether grown alone or in combination with corn or sorghum. An additional solution for livestock farmers looking to improve their protein self-sufficiency.

2019

Methane production

Development of a product line dedicated to anaerobic digestion, featuring winter CIVE, summer CIVE, and biomass sorghum.

Grain sorghum

Addition of grain sorghum varieties with different maturity dates and red grains to the product line to meet market demand. Thanks to partnerships established in the silage sorghum sector, Semental offers high-quality varieties with a wide range of options available.
